FIONIA Long Distance Triathlon powered by Sparekassen Danmark is Triathlon Denmark’s new Danish long-distance event. With Funen as its focal point and a route from Nyborg to Odense, the race creates a unified long-distance experience where sport, geography, and community are brought together in one cohesive story.
The event is held over the classic full distance:
- 3.8 km swimming
- 180 km cycling
- 42.2 km running
In addition, participation as a relay team is offered.
"After missing out on Copenhagen this year, it's amazing to have a race right here on Funen. I'm looking forward to swimming in the clear water on Nyorg's sandy beaches, cycling through the stunning scenery of Eastern Funen and running through my home city of Odense."Simon Cawling - Sydafrikaner bosat på Fyn
Living in a village North of Nyborg, it's incredible to have a local race. I can't wait to get stuck in, and it provides a unique opportunity for my wife and young kids to support me across the route!"Mike Hatfield - Australier bosat på Fyn
Learn More About FIONIA Long Distance Triathlon powered by Sparekassen Danmark
The route from Nyborg to Odense is a central part of the Fionia concept. The movement from east to west creates both a physical and symbolic story about crossing Funen and uniting the island in one shared race experience.
The event is planned with respect for local communities, traffic conditions, and surroundings, and is carried out in close dialogue with relevant authorities and stakeholders along the route.
The swim start takes place as a beach start off Nyborg. The 3.8 km swim passes Sinatur Hotel Storebælt, Nyborg Strand, and Hesselet, after which the route returns to the transition area at Sinatur Hotel Storebælt.
The cycling course runs from Nyborg to Odense through the scenic landscape of Funen. From the transition area, athletes ride onto a loop of approximately 50 km, which is completed twice. On the third lap, the route exits toward Odense. Several aid stations will be available along the course.
The transition area in Odense is located at the athletics stadium. From here, athletes run five laps of approximately 8 km on a varied route through and around the city. Aid stations and event zones will be placed along the route, and participants pass the finish area four times before finishing inside the athletics stadium at the end of the fifth lap. This provides excellent opportunities for spectators, family, and friends to follow and support the participants
The name Fionia is the Latin designation for Funen. It refers directly to the event’s geographical starting point and emphasizes the connection to the island, the route, and the local communities the race travels through from Nyborg to Odense. Fionia reflects the ambition of bringing Funen together in one cohesive long-distance experience.
FIONIA Long Distance Triathlon powered by Sparekassen Danmark has been designed with a focus on a well-prepared and predictable execution, where athletes are met with clear frameworks before, during, and after the event.
This means that information, schedules, and practical matters are communicated clearly, and that the event is conducted with high attention to safety, fairness, and consistent conditions for all participants.
Long-distance triathlon requires long and focused preparation. Therefore, the ambition is to create an event where the execution matches the effort athletes have invested in their training. Volunteers play a central role in this overall framework and are actively involved in both planning and execution.
FIONIA Long Distance Triathlon powered by Sparekassen Danmark is aimed at Danish and international triathletes with ambitions to complete a full distance – whether the goal is simply to finish or to compete at a high level.
